Global Warming deniers tend to think locally, not globally

January 12, 2010

So, a friend of mine told me that Fox news website had an article that said that scientists predicted a mini ice age in the next decade (I guess starting with this year’s cold winter). You can find the article here.

Actually, if you read the article, it’s not denying global warming despite the climate change denying headline “30 Years of Global Cooling Are Coming, Leading Scientist Says.” (Note, however, the correction at the bottom that pointed to an earlier version of the article denying man-made climate change.)

The Daily Mail in England has a much more strongly worded article. Strangely, the scientist the Mail quotes and Fox news refers to disagrees with the way the Mail quotes him (Fox doesn’t quote him).

The Guardian prints more of an interview with the scientist, who seems baffled by his misrepresentation in the Mail and other sources. (more…)

Jesus didn’t know when he would return, but this guy does

I don’t know what irritates me the most about this article, but I think it’s that the headline calls this civil engineer cum radio station owner a “biblical scholar”. I’m not insistent that a person go through the training that I did to be considered a scholar. There are plenty of scholars who did not earn doctorates in their field. But this guy does not resemble those at all. He seems like an outright loon. (more…)

Homophobia is over!

October 28, 2009

Looking at the Huffington Post headline this evening (“No More Matthew Shepards”), I couldn’t help but think of Steven Colbert’s declaration that racism was over when Obama won the presidency. How’d that work out?

So the President signed a bill that would expand a 1968 law making it a federal hate crime to assault people based on their race or religion to include sexual orientation. Now, according to the headline, there will be no more assault on people based on their sexual orientation? How does one respond to something so stupid?

Are they implying that no one has been assaulted because of their race since 1968? That’s some powerful law you have there.
